Abstract | |||
In this pilot study, a total of 200 pre- and postmenopausal women known to have, or to be at high risk of carrying, a germline BRCA1/2 mutation will be enrolled and followed over the 4 year study period with annual mammography, breast MRI, breast duct lavage, serum CA-125 and transvaginal ultrasound. Breast imaging characteristics and molecular changes in breast duct epithelial cells obtained as nipple aspirate fluid and breast duct lavage samples will be correlated to determine if cellular, molecular and proteomic genomic changes can be defined in pre-malignant, pre-invasive and invasive breast cancer. A variety of behavioral and psychosocial studies are integrated into this study as well. As of March 1, 2007, 200 subjects have been enrolled. |
